BOYDEL is working on a 1,000,000 per day on-water ocean oil spill recovery system. There is currently a need to consider off shore oil drilling in various jurisdictions around the world.
The public is rightfully concerned about the severe environmental damage that is caused by oil slicks on the oceans surface and then reaching the beach. Currently the worlds solution essentially revolves around discharging containment booms, soaker pads, steam cleaning beaches and transporting contaminants to an often distant oil recovery center.
BOYDEL's PetroMiner® continuous flow process strips oil from sea water, automatically separates the stripped oil and discharges scrubbed cleaned seawater at the end of the process. No rags, no bags, no pads and no transportation of contaminated seawater to a treatment facility.
Our concept for active treatment at sea involves mounting a PetroMiner® on a vacuum equipped barge that travels into a spill and then sucks up oily seawater, treats it onboard and simultaneously discharges cleaned seawater of the back of the barge at 1,000,000 litre per day volumes. Onboard treatment eliminates the need for offsite shipping costs for treatment, contaminating soaker pads which need to then be cleaned and destroyed and offers very quick high volume response and recovery.
A system such as this may make offshore oil drilling much more acceptable to the general public and would help reduce the need for importing foreign oil from unfriendly suppliers.
